Find out who performed the original
version of a particular song, or who covered that song.
Unlike many related sites, we try to be as complete as possible
(not just performer and song title, but also songwriters and original media)
and order the data in a reusable and maintainable way.
The database already contains 30333 works,
116512 performances,
2332 samples
and 36467 artists (performers and songwriters).

Over the past few years, SecondHandSongs has developed its reputation as the reference cover songs database. A lot of energy has been spent designing a powerful database and entering accurate and complete information.
Today, we're convinced that while entering data matters, we could also bring added value by providing our visitors with reviews on cover songs/albums or essays on any cover song-related subject.
We are therefore looking for new editors with good writing skills and a deep interest in cover songs to write interesting pieces a few times a year. What we can offer these editors is a platform, a unique opportunity to reach thousands of surfers per day.
If you think you're the man or woman we're looking for, contact us at info@secondhandsongs.com, preferrably with a piece you would post on the SecondHandSongs blog.

SecondHandsongs looks to the east... here is our first Russian editor: nikitoz555!
Nikitoz555 has impressed us with his passion for cover songs, and especially everything that concerns cross-language covering. We're looking forward to his new entries, because they will make our database a little less english-focused and more open to the rest of world.

This years Christmas gift from SecondHandSongs a redesign of the internal database (and hopefully the last one of this importance!).
In the past we had 'cover' relations between songs, but that was giving us headaches in some cases where one artist recorded it first but the other released it first.
Therefore, here is the new system: we make distinction between works (the sweat of a lyricist or composer) and the performance (the sweat of a performer obviously). An original is now defined as the first performance/recording/release for a work. This means that we can now show separately which performance is the original performance, the original recording or original release. There are also lots of less visible advantages to this, which will ensure that the quality of our data will get even better.
These changes have been tested extensively. We have been working on these changes since several years! Of course there will still be some (many) bugs or problems. Just let us know. We'll be happy to fix them.
Season's Greetings from the SHS team!
