Trendsetting musician, songwriter, singer and producer. After his band Flipper's Guitar disbanded, he chose to adopt the moniker "Cornelius" (a character from "The Planet of the Apes").
In the 1990's, Oyamada was a key figure in the popularization of the Shibuya-kei (Shibuya style) both in Japan and abroad, through an incessant activity of discovery, promotion, production and support to fellow indie artists, most of which were signed to his own label Trattoria.
His early works were influenced by indie pop, noise rock and sunshine pop, whereas his later works are more electronic, abstract, and experimental. His sources of inspiration are often explicitly referenced in his songs and in the artworks of his albums.
