- Born in Oshawa, Ontario, he and his brother Jerry worked under the surname Edmonton in the 1960s, during the "British invasion", because the name sounded English and they hoped to have a greater chance of being signed. The brothers were in a band called The Sparrows, which later evolved into Steppenwolf in which Jerry was the drummer. Dennis used the stage name Mars Bonfire for a solo career in which he often collaborated with Kim Fowley.
