Comments: The adopted son of.the late billionaire Bill Davidson, who owned, among others, the Detroit Pistons, Davidson was uneasy with his family's wealth and lived a low key lifestyle, moving to the Alaskan wilderness in his late-20s, and toured constantly for some six years. Davidson is a singer-songwriter who has played alternative country-rock, neo-folk, and alternative and traditional rock. He returned to live in the Detroit suburbs in 2006 to direct the Davidson Foundation, which has an endowment of over $1 billion. A major focus of the foundation is support for Detroit cultural institutions and projects.
