Lili Boniche was born in the Casbah in Algiers. He was a songwriter, musician and singer who developed a style that blends flamenco, Andalusian-Arab, paso doble, mambo and Jewish tradition. He moved to Paris in 1962 after government officials in Algeria confiscated his property and expelled Boniche along with other Algerian Jews. He was a star in both Algiers and Paris.
