- Procope was a longtime member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra, with which he played from 1946 until 1974. Procope principally played alto saxophone although he also played clarinet and made his name as a soloist on that instrument in the Ellington organization. Procope only recorded one LP and a few singles as a leader.
