Songwriter and pianist. Kitchings was born Irene Armstrong, but became Irene Wilson when she married Teddy Wilson in the 1930s. It was under the name "Wilson" that she wrote the music to "Some Other Spring", which was her biggest commercial success. The marriage to Teddy Wilson was brief. She experienced medical issues in the 1940s, returning to her home state of Ohio, and ultimately marrying Eldon Kitchings.
Over the years, some have mistakenly asserted that Irene Kitchings and Irene Higginbotham are the same person. Very possibly this misunderstanding arises from the fact that both Irenes wrote hit songs introduced by Billie Holiday.
