- Jazz pianist who originally played double bass. Indeed, he was hired in 1952 by Dizzy Gillespie on the recommendation of Milt Jackson as a bassist, but he was soon switched to piano. He played with Gillespie until 1954, freelancing thereafter and being recorded as a sideman on about fifty albums. He returned to his hometown of Buffalo, New York at 25, dying four years later.
