Country music singer and musician (guitar, string bass, mandolin, ukelele, violin, and five-string banjo) born in Laurel, North Carolina. He performed solo but mainly as a duo and with his brother, Walter, in the Callahan Brothers. In 1940 they moved to Dallas and began using the pseudonyms Bill (Homer) and Joe (Walter) Callahan, and thus are largely known by Bill and Joe Callahan today.
