Updated.
There is an entry for Elisabeth Welch in Lord, but it is not comprehensive as many of her performances were not jazz. Lord does not include Welch's recording of "The Nearness of You". Rust, "The Complete Entertainment Discography from the mid-1890s to 1942" does include the Welch recording, giving it an October, 1940 recording date. I've deleted the 1995 performance by Welch and added the 1940 performance.
No. The stereo version was a later issue. I've changed the catalog number.
The catalog number is not odd at all. BST xxxxx was a typical Blue Note stereo issue for over a decade. Wikipedia is wrong about the release date (although so am), which I have changed to 1972, which I believe is the last year the "BST xxxxx" numbering system existed.
Added. Thanks for the submission.
Added, using the U.S. release. Thanks for the submission.
Added.
As it turns out, Gillespie did not do the first recording of "Salt Peanuts", but the work has now been added to the database, and the Supersax version added. Thanks for the submission.
Corrected in the meantime.
