- Based in Hollywood, California. For the five years (1948-1952), it was the most successful R&B label in the US. Formed as Philo Recordings by the brothers Eddie and Leo Mesner. The label changed its name in early 1946 after threats from the radio manufacturer, Philco. The Aladdin brand was revived in 1974 by Billy Hancock and his brother Dale in Washington, DC.
