1955 - Comments
- This performance was recorded in March or April, 1950. Parker's performance at the St. Nicholas Arena in New York City of February 18, 1950, was privately recorded by trombonist Jimmy Knepper, including a version of "Star Eyes". Like most of these recordings, Star Eyes is incomplete. Due to a tape shortage, only Parker's entire solos were recorded. This earlier recording of "Star Eyes" was released in 1958 on "Bird at St. Nicks" on the Jazz Workshop label. The catalog number on the sleeve is shown as "JWS 500" and on the label of the LP as "JW 500". Both of these versions of "Star Eyes" -- as well as several others by Parker -- have been reissued several times. Parker's versions of "Star Eyes" are credited with making it a favorite among jazz musicians.
