Released in the US upfront of the UK, LP one mainly consists of studio recordings of critical political songs causing the US immigrant authorities to file a suit in order to withdraw Lennon's and Ono's resident permits (which they lost after many court hearings).
LP 2 is titled 'Live Jams' on the labels but remains unnamed on the outer sleeve. One side features performances by John & Yoko with the Plastic Ono Band (here mainly consisting of Elephant's Memory) and the other one was recorded at a live performance with Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention.
The album peaked at #11 in the UK album charts on 14.10.1972, went no. 2 in Norway, 10 in Australia and top 20 in some of other countries.
