The release history of this seminal reggae album is quite complicated, and still subject of debate and research.

Produced by Lee Perry, it was first released in Jamaica in a basic Maroon label sleeve and on Perry's Upsetter Records (TTL 65 A) . The repressing was called "Soul Revolution Part 2".
Upsetter had already released a dub (= instrumental) version of the album titled "Soul Revolution Part 2" (TTL 65 B, see picture). Given the identical tracklists, the almost identical catalog numbers and that some copies of "Soul Revolution" had been issued in "Soul Revolution Part 2" sleeves, confusion was perfect. The dub version was therefore later renamed "Upsetter Revolution Rhythm"

Most of the songs were released internationally on the compilation album "African Herbsman" in 1973. Some were later re-recorded and appeared on various releases, mainly by Island.
