Ok. But why do I see 2008 on the CMC website (your website?):
A bit confusing on this one. I normally recieve review copies from HEART OF TEXAS RECORDS same week as they are released. Sometimes I recieve advance copies to play on my radio show, even before the paperwork of the record are made. Probably what has happened here: I have got the very disc in my hand during late 2007 and got the "the real thing" early 2008.
There is no release year printed on either disc or on paper work. The label do seldom have an official day for release.
Records are just picked up and got mailed out when they are ready at pressing plant. Year of release should be 2008, as it was not available for general customers before that.

First of all: I have checked with the record company and the release date of the Rance Norton CD is April, 2008. They could not come any closer.
There are a whole lot of other covers on this CD. But now to my BIG problem:
For example the song: PASS ME BY. I know that the song is written by HILLMAN HALL (Tom T. Hall´s brother) and was released on his one and only LP. But is that the original release or did someone else record it prior to his own version? I hesitated to add that, since I was unsure about the songs history. My good guess is that you don´t want any covers added, if you are not absolutely sure about the first release!!?
Same goes with some other covers on the album:
Texas Honky Tonk?
I Never go Around Mirrors. I Know Lefty Frizzell did it, but was he the first?
Should I Go Home (Or Should I Go Crazy)Others have done that
One More Time written by Mel Tillis, not to be confused with the Roy Head composition.
Pop A Top that is Jim Ed Brown´s big hit, and the song he sings on Grand Ole Opry every Saturday night, but who was first? I Know that Nat Stuckey also had a monster hit with same song.
Heart Over Mind, another monster hit for Mel Tillis, but was he the first?
See my problem? I could of course add all those above, with a certain risk of being very wrong.
Will add another one though... "Wine Me Up"

You're right, you need the first release or recording to start adding covers. However, if you only add covers of originals that are in the database, a whole bunch of songs will be omitted in the database, and that would be a pity.
So what I suggest is pick one of the songs on the album of Rance Norton, and try to find out some background information so that we can make reasonable suppositions about the original. You would be surprised the amount of information you can get by googling, directly emailing artists, fan sites, etc...
