Description
History
The song "Baby don't you do it", originally performed by Marvin Gaye, was covered by The Band as "Don't do it" on their 1971 album Cahoots.
There are also a bunch of other versions of the song which I haven't personally heard, but have found enough info on on allmusic.com that you may want to add them to the db. Terry & The Pirates covered it (as "Don't do it" again) on Too Close for Comfort in 1979. The Isley Brothers sang it on their 1966 album This Old Heart of Mine. The Maskers apparently recorded it at some point, as it was released on their 2003 Complete Collection. The Poets recorded it as a single in the 60's. It is available on the 1991 compilation of their singles. The Small Faces had it on 1967's From the Beginning. It's on The Wailers' 2003 Wailers Wailers Everywhere.
Added
The Who covered it on their 1974 Odds & Sodds.
Are you sure? Check for example: http://www.thewho.net/discography/albums/oddssods.html
Note that Allmusic is never accepted as source.
Of the additions I listed above, as I said, the only one I had personally heard was The Band's version. I will say that I've seen other references to the questioned The Who version. (bootlegs at http://www.thewho.info/Bootlive5.htm, available at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000062XK/). Like I said, I haven't heard it, but if Amazon is selling it I bet it exists.
I double checked the other allmusic references I used but had not personally heard against Amazon, and confirmed Terry & The Pirates, The Isley Brothers, The Small Faces, and Stevie Wonder.
Amazon did not confirm The Poets, but there seems to be a dearth of info about them in general.
Amazon did not confirm The Wailers either. Their listing for Wailers Wailers everywhere does not list "Baby don't you do it", so that may have indeed been a mistake. It does, however, list a cover of "Hang on Sloopy", which I think deserves mention in and of itself.
Amazon did not confirm The Maskers, but http://www.alexgitlin.com/het.html did. I would caution that google didn't find any real confirmation beyond that, so some random site + allmusic = I don't know how much you want to trust that.
I'm sorry if I was depending on allmusic as a source and posted erroneous information as a result: I wasn't aware that the Second Hand Songs community didn't generally accept it as a source, nor had I ever dicovered any glaring enough errors in allmusic's db before to make me doubt the information I got from there. Guess I didn't read my way through the forums thoroughly enough for ground rules before posting.

You're right: if Amazon sells it then it was released. However, one of the reasons we don't use Amazon as a primary source is they often re-issues with extra tracks. So it's a bit dangerous to claim that a song is on an album when it was only on the re-issue 30 years later. This is the case here. Added The Who cover.
Note that we do use Amazon a lot to hear sound samples.
Lastly, Stevie Wonder performed it on his 1967 I Was Made to Love Her.

How can I doublecheck this?
