Description

The U2 song, that is.

covered by Negativland

12” EP/cassette/CD Aug 1991, from discography:

http://www.negativland.com/negdisco_detail.html

Kasey Kasem has a cow about U2 and other things, lyrics are spoken, U2 was sampled, lawyers were agitated.

Dancing Barefoot

A cover by U2 of the Patti Smith song written for/about them:

From the “Threesome” soundtrack CD 1994

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0111418/soundtrack

I have the CD (EK 57781) and as the listing's disclaimer says, they all don't appear on the CD.

However, from that soundtrack CD, there is also:

General Public covering “I’ll take you there” -- Staple Singers

Teenage Fan Club covering “Like a virgin” -- Madonna

Are you sure about the cat number?

And have you compared the authors of the songs mentioned on your CD with http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0111418/soundtrack ? Are they identical?

Sorry, should be more explicit in what I type. The label is “Epic Soundtrax” and not “Epic” and the cat number is correct. I know these can change over time as they did for vinyl, but I assume your checking problem is because of the label name.

Authors are identical on the iMdb listing, listed on the CD itself and insert, and better yet do match the ASCAP song listing. U2 is listed as a performer of that song in the ASCAP database.

I can confirm this as a cover from listening to the CD; I realize you cannot. I could find no clip from this soundtrack for you to compare. I’d be happy to scan things when they are in my collection, but you have to give me an email address that will not spamblock attachments. I assume the site message system will not allow attachments; they usually do not. I also promise not to send you the information four times.

The iMdb listing was the only online source I could find at the time other than providing a scan of the CD face. Unfortunately, there were no eBay listings at the time either.

1) The cat number

Not one source has EK57781 as cat number, all have EK 57881. So if you could have a look once more.

2) The Patti Smith cover is in the ASCAP database as you say, so that's ok.

Scans btw are always appreciated, you can send them to waereghem@yahoo.co.uk

Adding as soon as we have clarity about the cat number.

Duh. . . it is indeed EK 57881. Have emailed a scan of the CD label to you if I haven't confused you enough already.

Thanks for the scan!

However, all this trouble for... something that was already in the database:

Dancing Barefoot

The current entry is a 1989 release so it gets priority over the Threesome release.

Maybe this work wasn't useless after all. Looking at the back cover of the CD there might be other covers on it. Could you scan me the page of the booklet where the authors of the songs are noted?

Scans being sent.

I'll Take You There originally by The Staple Singers.

Like a Virgin is the madonna song.

Make Me Smile is the Steve Harley/Cockney Rebel song.
