More problems.

As far as I could see the version by the Gliiter Band was released in 1975 (check http://www.glitterband.fsnet.co.uk/discography.html#albums and http://www.glitterband.fsnet.co.uk/traklist.html), the version by Hello in 1974...

Hey Patrick, sorry about all the trouble but you're really coming up with a hard case Wink

  • Concerning the first names of the translators, could they be CLAUDE Carrère and JEAN Schmitt?
  • Do I get it right when I say the song has been translated in French... except the title? (sounds a bit strange to me)
  • Why do you think it has been sung by Josh Brando? And would this be the same translated version as sung by Sheile?

I'm a pain in the ass, I know Grin

Hi,thanks for your mail.

I'm not sure about the names you mentioned but you could well be right.

I'm gonna search for this on French sites.

On the record ,only the family names are quoted.

The info about Brando was found after long searching on the web,on a site about Sheila I think.

There,it was also mentioned that the Brando-version could be found on Carrere-compilation-LP's.

Alright, new problem!

Could it be that the title of Sheila's cover is not "Goodbye my love" but "Good bye my love"? The following sources seem to confirm this:

http://perso.wanadoo.fr/jeanyves.fradin/les%2045%20tours.htm

http://sheilafan.ifrance.com/sheilafan/html/sheila/listealphabetique.htm (btw, this source also confirms the translators are indeed Carrère and Schmitt)

What title do you read on the sleeve you have?

Hello,

Yes,you are right : on the cover,it's titled "Good Bye My Love ",but it is the Glitter Band -song,translated into French.I think the "strange" title has something to do about the origin of thr record : France, where the knowledge of other languages isn't widespread.

Composers mentioned on the record : Shephard G./C. Carrere/J. Schmitt.

G.Shephard (Gerry) was the guitarist/vocalist with the Glitter band.

And to please me,they put "Patrick, mon cheri" on the A-side.

Greetings.

Hello Bastien,

Yes,it's a bit strange.I also had that 7" in the past but I can't remember when.I checked my hello-CD's but couldn't find any info.

As far as I know, the Glitter Band recorded that track when John Rossall was still with them but put it on the Rock'n'Roll Dudes-LP from 1975.

On some fanclub-CD's there's even a demo-version of that song with a different title.

You can also find the demo-version of the song on 2 different Glitter Band-CD's:"Hits Collection"(1990)and from the fanclub:"Glitz Bitz" volume2.

The record was released in 1975 on Polydor 2058 619.The record was produced by Alan Williams and John Richardson of The Rubettes and they also wrote the B-side "Hunting Kind".

The band included Iain Richardson, brother of Rubettes-drummer John Richardson.

Alan Rowett, who wrote a biography of The Rubettes, confirmed my information.

You can also find the song on a Glitter Band-fanclub-release : Glitz Bitz Vol.4.

Now on Ebay UK,there is another Glitter Band -cover on sale ,also by David Johnson.Just type in Glitter Band on Ebay-Uk and you will find it in the list.Bidding ends on March 23.

The song is "Pictures Of You" written by Glitter Band-singer Gerry Shephard and drummer Pete Phipps. It can be found on the Glitter Band-LP "Rock And Roll Dudes".

It was recorded by Phoenix on Dawn Records DNS.1110 and released in 1975.On the B-side ,you can find the song "Thrill Me With Your Love".The record was produced by Adrian Baker.

Phoenix was Alan Yates, who still performs in small clubs in the UK.On guitar and backing-vocals was Gerry Shephard of the Glitter Band.Mike Leander ,producer of The Glitter Band,Gary Glitter and Hello, played drums, bass and keyboards.

Nevada Brown excisted from some Glitter Band-members : Gerry Shephard,Pete Phipps,Peter Oxendale,Harvey Ellison,Glitter Band-producer Mike Leander and an unknown singer.

The record was produced by Mike Leander and Gerry Shephard for Rock Artists Management.

It was released in 1978 on Atlantic K11096.

The song was in fact a cover of a Nirvana-song:not from the band with Kurt Cobain but from a British band from the late 60's.

I don't know on what medium it first appeared but you can find it on the CD's "Secret Garden" and on "Chemistry".

The two key-members of that band were Patrick Campbell-Lyons and Alex Spyropoulos.

The song was written by Patrick Campbell-Lyons.

By my sort, this is the oldest open generic submission and it will be a lot of work. I'll see what I do to convert every performance that isn't already on site or otherwise accounted for elsewhere. At a minimum we'll determine what type of effort this will require on my part to get these closed....

Perhaps I missed something, but as far as I can tell I have re-submitted or otherwise accounted for everything. Ready to close....

Bastien Since you were heavily involved in this submission, any thoughts on how I handled this thread via re-submissions? Would like to get the logistics confirmed prior to tackling another of these monsters....
