According to an article at Spectropop about Patty Michaels, this was the original. But the highly reliable Joop Jansen, in a discussion at The Originals, has given release dates of May 1966 for Sandy Posey and June 1966 for Patty Michaels. More news as it comes to hand....
But since most sources credit the original version to Michaels, I will change if (for the time being)

Joop is probably right on the release. The highly reliable Dick lists this as "first recorded", but unfortunately, fails to come up with a rec date for Patty. Could you add a comment reflecting all this? Maybe someone comes along with the solution
