History
As far as I could find out the original (in English) is by Proudfoot, a South-African band (no further information about this band found on line yet). Lead vocals by John Weddepohl (who sang lead vocals on the 1977 disco-version by Hot R.S. as well)
´Delta Queen´ was written by Terry Tassenberg .
First (European) release from Belgium on New Fly as a 7' single. Recorded At R.P.M. Studios in Johannesburg, South Africa; this suggests a first release in South Africa...
The lyrics for the French adaptation by Esther Galil were by Yves Dessca and Gilles Péram
There is also a German (by Candyfloss, who also did it in English) and a Finnish adaptation (as 'Tule kotiin' by Jetit; lyrics by Vexi Salmi ).

With the help of some very friendly South African music collectors I contacted (thanks Tertius and John!) the following information on the original release could be gathered;
Performance title: Delta Queen
Artist: Proudfoot
Release title: Delta Queen
Release date: January 1972
Label: The City Deep Record Company
Cat. #: TOS.855
Format: Vinyl single
The information is quite complete now and I do hope 'Delta Queen' can soon be added to the database.
Thanks all for helping!
