Nothing new here. If one is young, is there not the temptation to sign a deal with the devil and also not be wise enough to bring a lawyer along? And when one is older, does one permanently retain a lawyer to watch copyright and other things? Recall also the standard deal of all costs being paid by the artists against profits: all elements of production, clothes, limos, etc. Motown stars (and performers elsewhere) sued years later to get what they thought they were due. They lost, not realizing the deal they made above. They did get a bit of money from the amounts set aside for payola that were never used when Motown was hugely successful. A wonderful industry. The ironically named label Sympathy for the Record Industry says a lot.

BTW the officially decreed primary method at SHS is to credit songs by who is listed the royalty payment sites -- BMI, ASCAP, GEMA, etc. Those show who gets paid, not always who actually wrote the song ("money/that's what I want"). Editors are allowed the option(!) of mentioning who actually wrote the song. "And the beat goes on".
