Maybe the Joe Pass version starts with a bit of Bach.

I guess calling the beginning 'inspired by' would not be wrong Wink.

But even it was quoting Bach, that still wouldn't constitute a sample.

I'd define a sample as copying sounds from (f. ex. the bass line or the drums) or parts of songs (f. ex. 0:01 - 0:36), sometimes also nearly entirely, more or less 1:1 from previous recordings, mostly by other artsist.
