Cielito Lindo

Many sources claim it was published in 1919. TheOriginals claim it was written in 1882, and the first performer was Carlos Gardel in 1921.

Does anyone have more info on this?

From a popular traditional song of Mexico (Public Domain) written in 1882 by Quirino Mendoza y Cortès.

Apparently, first recording by Carlos Gardel in 1921.

Collected by Osvaldo Fresedo & Emilio Augusto also in 1921 under the title Cielito Mio.

Covers: "Cielito Lindo"

(José) Pedro Infante (Cruz), 1942

Bill Haley y Sus Cometas, 1962

Many sources say this was written in 1882 by Quirino Mendoza y Cortés, but this author doesn't show up much in the credits on covers.

The first recording of the song was probably made by Trio Gonzales for Victor Records in 1919 (Male vocal duet with guitar).

Rec date: 12/15/1919 (New York, New York)

Released on Victor 72563.

B-side was Adelita, another Spanish classic.
