Looking for more information about this work, because there's not much to find. It was published in 1925, but I'm unable to find versions from the 1920s.

It was supposedly performed as instrumental on ukulele in the movie "His Pastimes" in 1926 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0831294/ )

Even Jazz Standards doesn't provide any info about originals: http://www.jazzstandards.com/compositions-3/ineverknew.htm

Any info about early versions for this work is much appreciated.

Thanks for the info Walter! You make me look like a Google noob :-)

Do you have any proof Roger Wolfe Kahn was first? Is he family of Gus Kahn perhaps? Also, did you miss Peerless Quartet on that site? It looks like they recorded it even earlier than Roger Wolfe Kahn: http://victor.library.ucsb.edu/index.php/matrix/detail/800007758/BVE-33482-I_nev…

EDIT: it looks like the version by Peerless Quartet was never released. But there may be earlier versions still...

Indeed, the PQ version was destroyed.

These are the oldest I could find:

HARMONY 64-H, LOU GOLD & HIS ORCH, 10/30/25 Fio-Kahn

COLUMBIA 500D, THE RADIO FRANKS 11/2/25 Fio-Kahn

GENNETT 3177B, RED SANDERS & HIS ORCH, 11/5/25 Fio-Kahn

VOCALION 15153A, AMBASSADORS, 11/13/1925 Fio-Kahn

There are many others from the 20s but unsure about the authors.
