In English: David of the White Rock. See notes for the root work for details of the composition. This lyric, added many years later to an 1803 arrangement for violin, cello and piano by Franz Joseph Haydn, was published in The Songs of Wales (editor Brinley Richards) by Boosey & Co, London. It is one of several lyrics that have been added to Owen's melody (other versions include "The Dying Bard" by Sir Walter Scott). It describes the circumstances of Dafydd's dying wish to play his harp as he bids farewell to his loved ones.
