"Papaveri e papere" - meaning "Poppies and ducks" finished second in the Festival di Sanremo 1952 performed by Nilla Pizzi. It has a chearful melody, but beneath the somewhat childish tone political satire is hidden: it concerns the powerful - the "top brass" - versus the ducks, the ones suffering from the powerful. The song was a huge success and was translated into forty languages (even in Chinese!). It earned the authors forty million lire in royalties.
