Universally famous with the title "Mah Nà Mah Nà" (or Mah-Na, Mahna, etc.) the song was composed for the film "Svezia, inferno e paradiso" as incidental music for a sequence showing a group of Swedish girls having a sauna (hence the original title, which can be translated as "Hail for the Swedish Sauna").
Neither Umiliani nor Luigi Scattini (the director of the movie) believed in the potential of the song, and they even left it off the original (Italian) soundtrack album. When the rights of the movie were sold to Avco Embassy Pictures for the American distribution, the producers asked Umiliani to record a longer version of "Viva la sauna svedese" (now re-titled "Màh-Nà Mah-Nà") and released it as a single.
