Alfred Hayes published a Joe Hill tribute poem called "I Dreamed I Saw Joe Hill Last Night" in 1930. It starts "I dreamed I saw Joe Hill last night, alive as you and and me". With the next line being "But I said, Joe, you're ten years dead" and Joe Hill having been executed in November 1915, the lyrics will actually have been written in very late 1925 or very early 1926, though.
Ten years later, Earl Robinson set the poem to music and christened it "Joe Hill".
NB: In 1968, Phil Ochs wrote his own ballad about the life and death of Joe Hill and also called it Joe Hill. - Published by
