Song that commemorated American victory at the 'Battle of Baltimore' in 1814. The American military had adopted Key's song as an official part of their ceremonies as early as the 1890s. On March 3, 1931, President Herbert Hoover signed a congressional act that made Francis Scott Key's "The Star-Spangled Banner" the official national anthem of the United States. - Licensing
