- Jazz pianist and singer much influenced by Fats Waller, who he met in 1939 and came to know well. Flowers was from Detroit and spent most of his career there with stretches in New York and Philadelphia. After Waller's death,Waller's manager promoted Flowers as a possible successor to Waller.
